In the seaside village of Ag. Ioannis between Zagora and Tsagarada on the eastern coast overlooking the Aegean, with the islands Skiathos and Skopelos in the near distance, stands the 1000 year old church of Ag. Ioannis. Dimitris Danis,Vathy local, had suggested we make the effort to descend the mountain to see Ag. Ioannis, so of course we did. The self elected Greek/south African caretaker hanging around the perimeter was just itching to take someone inside, and so he had his itch relieved by the Ithacans looking for a toilet and finding themselves at the ancient doors of Ag. Ioannis church. |

Greece has beautiful churches all over and Pelion is no different. The village church is the cornerstone of the community. |
