Thu 6 Sep - The changing skies over ithaca. Yesterday morning storms thundered across the island dropping rain on most areas except for Lefki and Stavros. A cool wind blew the clouds quickly across the sky and the storm left as suddenly as it came, leaving an autumn weather day behind. While visitors to the island hoped the bad weather wouldn't last, locals welcomed the change. Rain, wherever it dropped, nourished the sun dried earth, cracked and parched by a very, very hot summer. For great parts of each day, the villages seem quiet as does Vathy, but there are still bursts of activity around dinner time when people emerge from their yachts and hotel rooms to enjoy a meal on the bay side. On a day like yesterday, beaches were not the main attraction around the island. The light and clarity of the day enhanced the natural hillsides of the island, making a day spent among nature more appropriate than spending a day soaking up the rays. It was a great day for walking and getting into the wild of Ithaki.

It's not over until the fat lady sings... Do I hear a low C

Fri 7 Sep - Already through the first week of September and the this week there is no doubt we have gone from Summer to Autumn. It's one thing for the Season to end, but for the Seasons' weather to end so dramatically is quite another thing. It feels very, very strange. Yesterday we had one of the clearest days all Summer and today, there are not only storms and rain, but a temperature drop that has everyone putting on their sweaters.

Yesterday was so clear we could see deep into the mainland

...and across Afales into Lefkada

Left - Today the weather closed Ithaki in so tight, you could barely see the yachts in Vathy Bay. The water was churning into a frenzy as the rain suddenly poured down. While northern Ithaca was already clouded in early this morning, southern Ithaca was still drenched in a fair amount of sunshine until around midday, when black clouds puffed up in the darkening sky and let loose a tremendous downpour over us all. The weather should clear by this afternoon, but the temps are expected to remain lower than usual for the rest of the week.

Sat 8 Sep - Yesterdays' skies were so dramatic and the views so very clear that we realized just how near we really are to the mainland and other islands. Summer mists really close Ithaki in. Although it may not have been the best weather for those on the island for a holiday, or those with tickets for the Lefkada ferry, the clarity left by the storms made everything around us stunningly beautiful.

Mon 10 Sep - Yesterday the skies cleared again to make for a beautiful day all around. A warm 29C was just what the doctor had ordered after the cold tempertures over the past few days. Below Left - The crew of one of the Day Trippers which come into Kioni, take it easy while the hordes go eat, drink and swim. Below - Makis and Ramona from Platrithia, sold up their restaurant business 3 years ago and now frequent other peoples restaurants. Last night they ate at Yefuri Restaurant with their friend Neil from the UK, who has been on the island since April this year learning the ways of Ithaki. Maki is hoping to find Neil a nice girl, but Neil is happy the way he is, independent and free.

Tue 11 Sep - The weather over the past few days has been so spectacular that it makes you want to sight-see Ithaki.

Left and Below - Perahori village above Vathy, with its terraced slopes, green with olive groves and a friendly and warm community, is a great place to take in some stunning views over southern Ithaca. From the Cafe at the top of the village, you look down onto the bay of Vathy, Loutsa and Skinos, Sarachiniko and Filiatro, or a little further around the mountain, toward the mainland and Patras. You can not help but be struck by the wonder of this place and its most breathtaking views. Some visitors are frightened of the narrow roads that wind their way up and around this village, but once they reach the top, any fear of falling subsides in the beauty they are suddenly surrounded by. At this time of year, those with vineyards tend the grapes, so soon there will be more Perahori wine in the barrells.

Wed 12 Sep - Everything on Ithaki is looking quite beautiful. It's a great time to be on the island, walking and taking it in.
