Mon 9 July - Left - Yesterday evening - The blood red sky of a Summer sunset is always breathtaking, and no sunset is more breathtaking than the sunset over Afales Bay. A warm southerly breeze sweeps over the beach and up the steep cliff-side of the bay as the sun goes down over Ithaki. Below, the water is calm. Small ripples, teased forward by the breeze, lick at the pebbled beach, now almost covered in nightfall, and only the chirping of crickets echo among the Cypress trees and in the bushes. A Kounavi stirs in the scrub, with its eyes glowing under the black sky of this moonless night on Ithaca.

Above and Below - Another Monday morning at the heart of Ithaki, Vathy. The town heats up quickly under the rising sun, but it's Summer so no one complains that it's a warm day and that the sky is blue. Many yachts, big and small, are docked in the harbour and there's much life in the streets. Ithaca is so colourful this time of year that it makes everyone wish they were on holiday.
Music from the Cafes escapes from the open doors while there are cappuccinos and frappes being made. It's late breakfast time, it's coffee time in the Vathy Square.

Right - A mobile shadow puppet show amplifies its propaganda around the streets of Vathy alerting everyone to the performance tonight at 9pm.

Vathy

Below - Polis Beach in the north of Ithaca, just under the northern center of Stavros village, seems a popular place for both locals and visitors alike. 2 beach fronts, shady trees, sun lounges, umbrellas and a great Cantina for refreshments.

Left and Right - Summer is the time for concerts, festivals and theatre, but rarely have we had the opportunity to see a performer in such a scenic venue as Chani Cafe and Restaurant, where the bay of Vathy is on one side and Cephalonia is on the other. Maria Nomikou performs at Chani on Saturday 21st July. for details drop by Chani (Hani) and ask.

Tue 10 July - Above - A Day Tripper pass-by at Frikes during midday.

Above - The Anoghi Bell Tower on the village Square. You'll need to book if you want a meal there, give the family time to prepare, and the only menu choice is whatever the family are having, but people are not usually disappointed. For real peace and quiet with a big chunk of traditional Ithaki on the side, Anoghi Cafe makes the change as good as a holiday.

Above Right and Below Left - Kioni. Yachts and Day Trippers continue to flood into this picturesque bayside village in the north of Ithaca.

Wed 11 July - There's a village high up on Ithaca that is not usually thought of during the Summer Season, and that's Anoghi, but for a real traditional experience, it's worth heading up there for a home cooked meal of roast potatoes and goat at the village Cafe. You can catch up with some locals who are always happy to share a story or two.

Fri 13 July - Above - Strong winds yesterday didn't stop the Day Trippers from tripping over themselves and eachother vying for positions on the bayside to catch the suns' rays. It's not often you see bodies strewn along the pebbles of central Kioni, usually they head to the nearest beach.

Sun 15 July - Above - Margarita Cafe in Stavros gets busier as bus tours pass through Ithaca on a daily basis. Left - The other side of Kioni bay.

Mon 16 July - The bougainvilleas are in full bloom around the island. right - Lefki
Left - Overlooking the northern village of Stavros is the quaint and picturesque chapel of Ag. Barbara. From you have views across to Afales and Lefkada and also down toward Frikes Bay.
