Tue 22 Jan - Above Left - In winter the locals have time to do a little sightseeing themselves and although Cephalonia isn't a big trip, it's a good opportunity to see something new. Click here or on Photo above for an Ithaca to Cephalonia special.

Above Right - Dimitri Danis has a way of working magic everywhere he works. This year it's Porto Cafe in Vathy that gets to tickle under his magic wand. Right - We don't usually have a Who's Here in Winter, but Alice has come all the way from the Netherlands, where there's a hell of alot more winter than here, to see some of the friends (one of them, Dimitris Danis) who she has made on her previous visits to Ithaca. She relishes the experience to see the island stripped back of tourism and showing its traditional face. Alice, a painter, was immediately impressed by the crisp views and the intensity of colour under the winter light.

Thu 24 Jan - Below - Rain and chilly temps are back. On the mainland there's more snowfall, but not on the mountains of Lefkada, our visible neighbour to the north. There is the smell of winter around the past couple of days and alot of damp. Power went off a couple of times during last night, but luckily we all woke to electricity online. The fear of cold is still instilled into us since the big 'power out' a couple of years ago. It's not something any of us want to go through again. Trying to get online with Otenet is back to its winter wonder. (Wonder if I'll get on today. Wonder how many attempts before I get a line that doesn't take me anywhere. Wonder when Otenet will have viable competition so we can all get online when we want or need to.

Ithaki can't complain about the weather its been having. Days just like Spring, sunny with blue skies and a warmth not at all reminiscent of winter, but that's about to change again on Wednesday, with rain a cooler temps predicted.
ithacagreece.com will be heading to the Vathy Cinema on Wednesday evening to catch the Ithaki Theatre Group in rehearsal. We're all waiting with baited breath to see what these talented locals will offer the community when rehearsals are finished and the performance is on.

Wonder how long they will blame our individual phone lines before they do something about their grid or modems. Wonder if the promise of ADSL in the north was just a dream I had.) Time to try for wireless I think.

Left - The Ithaki Theatre Group is deep into rehearsals for the Ancient Greek Play 'Lisistrati' by Aristofamis. ithacagreece.com was kindly permitted to attend and take pics. I had alot of fun. Click here or on photo left for more.
Notice - The ithacagreece.com Server is changing platforms over the next couple of months. There have been some glitches like mail bouncing back or down time on some of the sites, so please bare with us. If you are worried about your mail not getting through, then note down these email addresses ithacagreece@yahoo.com.au or hardcand@otenet.gr Either of these will get your mail through should you experience any difficulty sending mail through the site. So far everything is ok, but I'm sure I'll be pulling all my hair out before the process is finished. Keep your eye out on winter pages because I may need your help in letting me know if something on the site isn't working at your end.
Mon 28 Jan - Bursts of high winds predicted for today kept the Eptanisos ferry securely docked in Patra port. Everything looks very lush around the island now. Green grass everywhere as seen below.

Wed 30 Jan - Can't believe it's already the end of January, can you? Well, the weather has been perfect this past week. Blue skies and sunshine and a chill that has us waking each morning to see if any snow has fallen. None so far. Yesterday -6 C was predicted for our area overnight, but it didn't feel like that here. Ithaki is well wrapped in its own little micro-climate, out of reach of the weather bureau it seems. Above Right - Midday overlooking Frikes and beyond. Below - The sun goes down over Polis, Pilakata and Exoghi.

Fri 1 Feb - Above Right - Afales views. Fine days on Ithaki again the past few days, but there is a noticeable temperature drop. Once the sun goes down it's gloves and hats or freeze. February is the coldest month, after it's over, the weather begins to open up again. Already there are signs of Spring with Almond trees blossoming all over the island. This month it's business again as usual with festivities behind us. Last night it was Budget time for the Ithaki Council, but it is also the time of year for those who haven't had their annual holiday, to pack their bags and head off, either to warmer climates or to the snow.
