Dimitris Danis
A full and wonderful life

"When I met Mr. X, my life turned around and I finally knew what it was that I needed to do."

In 1991 Dimitris Danis' life turned around when he metthe talented Mr. X.  A new phase of his life unfolded for him.  Mr. X introduced Dimitris to Opera and taught him how to see life through an artistic eye.  A new dimension to view his dreams.

During this time Dimitris worked for Art and Linen, an Interior Design Company, for which he displayed their products in shop windows as pieces of art throughout Athens and began to be more and more disillusioned with the life of the Art and Fashion world and it's fickle clique.

Mr. X came into Dimitris life at a time when the stress of the fashion business  had started to take it's toll.  By 1994 the stress was at it's peak, but with now friend and employer Mr. X , Dimitris Danis was given the opportunity to abandon city life and the life of fashion and art, which had become intolerably superficial, and live with Mr. X in his house in Athens and on Ithaca, a small Greek island in the Ionian Sea, west of mainland Greece, where he could gather himself and find the person he had lost on the way to realizing his dreams.  Dimitris was no new-comer to this Ithaca.  He and his family had visited for holidays over the years, but until Mr. X, had never entertained the idea of spending months there.  After a couple of years going back and forth from Athens to Ithaca, Dimitris Danis, on the 26th October 1996, packed up his life to live in the village of Kioni, Northern Ithaca, permanently.

In the future Dimitris will be taking John Stuart Andersons plays and Monodramas around Europe and to the Uk for performances and will continue to evolve and grow in the art of Costume Design and Theatre.  From his home of Kioni Ithaca, Dimitris Danis will have his rich and wonderful life to share with the world.

It took Dimitris Danis an entire year to recover from the stress of the life he had left behind in Athens.  He had no energy for the Arts or for Fashion.  That life had been purposely left far behind.  Dimitris commenced working for people who came regularly to Ithaca, but did not live there.  He cleaned, maintained and restored their houses. In the first two years on the island, he had 20 houses under his care.  He dabbled a little in design with Interior Decorating and Shop window displays in Vathy.  In Kioni he worked at Mythos Restaurant as a waiter before settling in at Spavento Bar where he worked the next  7 years.

"I was the fastest waiter and I single-handledly raised the wages of all Ithacan waiters"

Dimitris Danis has always taken pride in whatever work he chose to undertake, cleaning and working in the Service Industry made no difference to that commitment of maintaining a high standard in all his endeavours.

"For now, I am entirely happy here on Ithaca.  I love the life and I love my friends here."

Although Dimitris worked hard and long hours, he found life in the small harbour village of Kioni, and on Ithaca generally, very rewarding.  His needs to be creative were satisfied with decorating and restoring old houses.  It was no lesser an art than costume design.  His artistic and theatrical notions were only  re-awakened with the meeting of British Actor, John Stuart Anderson, and his manager Ricky Church, who had decided to live out their days in Kioni after retiring from the theatre.  Through this meeting, a strong and close friendship developed between the three like-minded men, a bond that would see them unite in their artistic endeavours.

When John Stuart Anderson died in Kioni, December 2002, Dimitris Danis set about making a tribute to his great friend with an exhibition of his life at the Gallery in Vathy, Ithaca.  The Exhibition was a great success and wetted the appetite of the Ithacan community to find out more about this Actor who had chosen their little island to settle on.

Dimitris Danis translated John Stuart Anderson Monologue, In the Garden of Medea into Greek, and set about Producing and Directing it for the Ithacan Community.  On the 11th April 2003, the play Premiered at Vathy, Ithaca to outstanding reviews from critics and the public.
