In April there are wild flowers blossoming across the green fields of Ithaca. The winter rains have nurtured and fed the rocky soil, giving life to the seeds of growth around the island. The community emerges fully from its' Winter Cocoon, to breathe life back into the streets and the Village Squares of Ithaki. Local women take to the hills to collect horta and enjoy their island before the first holiday makers arrive on their shores. The community prepares for the pinnacle of the Greek year, Easter, and the excitement of it, embraces all. The church bells toll for the many services attended by the traditional folk, who await this time of year with the fervour of times past, and pass on the tradition to the younger members of their families, so they too, will revere the Greek Easter as the holy celebration it has been for centuries. By end of April, the first independent travellers arrive to enjoy the nature of the island through walking and painting, and by the beginning of May, all the Tour Group representatives, have set up home for the Summer Season, getting houses and businesses ready to ferry tourists to and from the island over the coming months.
