By June, Ithaca is completely set up for Summer. During the first two weeks, there's an air of fun and anticipation. The exhaustion from last years' tourist season is forgotten and all thoughts project towards the coming season. Tourists on the island at this time of the year are usually Walkers and Artists, primarily from the UK, and their polite ways bring out the best in the shop keepers around Ithaca. Locals begin their swimming season and ferries start their Summer schedules, bringing 'day trippers' from around the Ionian to spend an afternoon on Ithaki. The first Panighiri is anticipated in Frikes at the end of the month, as is the usual debate on which day to hold it. Locals take every opportunity to meet around the cafes on the island before there is little time to sleep, let alone socialize. The temperatures can reach the mid 30's during the day and the nights are cool, but there is no doubt that Summer has well and truly arrived by the time Ithaki opens its' doors to July.
