July means Forkis Childrens Theatre at the Cultural Center in Vathy. The kids rehearse all of June to put on an annual play for the community and visitors. This years' 'The Star Thief' included a relevent ecological message. From the mouths of babes, the point was driven into the back rows, how important it is to look after our fragile environment in general, and in particular, our Ithaki. Forkis Group have such a special way with the kids on the island. They seem to get the best out of them, all the while very evident, that a Forkis Play isn't a chore, but alot of fun to be involved in. As every year, the costumes were great and so was the stage setting. So much thought goes into the detail for a 2 day performance, it's no wonder the Childrens Theatre is always so well attended. What is surprising is just how good Ithakis kids are at performance. We're sure to see some of them graduate to become excellent actors.
