September 2013 - Saturday 14th - Yesterday, the day started with a shower and ended with a cloud of thunder passing over the island, dropping just a little rain across Ithaki. A rainbow actually stretched across the sky before the rain fell. Quite strange. Quite strange also, was the one cloud that rumbled with thunder, leaving behind it, a blue sky again.

Above - The biriki is the traditional heating capsule for greek coffee. You can get some fancy ones, but the biriki above, are the ones generally used in the households around the island.

Above Left - View to Exoghi from Afales. Exoghi pretty much as one of the most expansive views, not only over the northern island, but also far beyond our island boundaries to the mainland and Lefkada, with a few small islands inbetween.

Left - The post shower/thunder light over Stavros and Ag. Barbara left a golden glow over the mountain side, bathing us in the late afternoon sunshine.

Above - What's wrong with this picture?

Left - Sun down over Frikes bay and mainland Greece in the distance.

Sunday 15th - The fine weather continues, despite a little thunder a couple of nights ago. There was a much clearer view yesterday with a fresher wind blowing across the island.

Above - Author of 'Passage to Ithaca', George Paxinos.

Left - When the wind blows, the plastics come out.

Monday 16th - Windy and grey start to today, but yesterday, the sun was shining, and by midday today, I bet the sun willl be shining again too.

Although the first week of September seemed a little low, the rest of it has been pretty busy so far, despite the changing temperatures and skies. Still lots of unknown faces around the traps.

Left - Stavros.

Left - Sunset Cafe has a great view over Polis bay, it also has some very yummy Rovanni, Ithaki's traditional dessert.

Left - Margarita Cafe, also in Stavros, is a popular hangout for locals and bus tourists alike. Lots of sweets and snacks to choose from all through the day.

Left - Fiorendino Cafe Bar in Frikes, looks after most of the needs of the Flotillas that sail in to this village harbour.

Left - Last night Yefuri restaurant in Platrithia had it's end of season party with disco lights and mirror ball, streamers and sparklers.

No, Yefuri isn't closing for the season, but it will now only be open on the weekends from Friday night to Sunday night, and of course Sunday brunch.

Although it wasn't a pumping night of partying until dawn, it was alot of fun, and as usual, the Yefuri boys go all out to have everyone enjoy themselves.

Left - This morning, the sky was quite black on the horizon and overall, quite windy at sunrise. Yachts will be motoring in today, if at all.

Tuesday 17th - A very strange weather day today. What to wear? Everything and nothing.  The day started off ok, but then quickly changed with some rain and very dark skies before changing back to sunshine again. More clouds and heavy skies hanging around so we could be in for more rain later today.

Left - View to Kefalonia from Lefki way.

Below - It was much worse yesterday. Heavy winds and rain obscurred any hope of a good day.

Left - Vathy Although the sun is shining again now, 3pm, just before lunch, the prediction was a lot less positive with the black skies over Kathara looming heavily over us.
