Villa Lazareto is a restored villa, peacefully located on a lush mountain plane at the edge of the village of Anoghi with views across Ionian islands towards the mainland of Greece. Villa Lazareto is set among Almond blossoms and cypress trees in a large private estate. Anoghi, the village name, means 'Above the earth'. The village remains to be a pocket of tradition and the setting of a long Ithacan history. During the Pirate days, it was here the inhabitants of the island seeked protection from the seafaring danger that persecuted most communities in the Ionian. The settlements of old can still be seen in the ruins on the mountainside and on the planes of Anoghi. The locals of Anoghi are friendly and the village remains untouched by commercial tourism. Villa Lazareto takes its name from the area of Anoghi that goes by the same name. Owner and Hostess, Sofia Moraitou, has restored the villa with great attention to detail and with much love. It's bright and spacious, and takes advantage of the great views which compliment this area of Ithaca. |
