Ithaki's football teams count on the contributions of the community to keep it's teams going. Last night at Limnes in Platrithia, Odysseas Football team put on a fund raiser party to help this northern Ithacan team to get through the next season of matches. For those who hadn't booked a table, turning up early was a good way to get one.
Even if you're not a football fan, it is something that helps the community as a whole when young people have something like this to focus on instead of sitting around a darkened room with their phones and tablets to entertain them over the winter months. Doing something physical is not only good for the body, but also for the spirit.
There could have been a better turn out, but after a very full season of festivals and parties, it's little wonder that even the dedicated party goers may have been a little tired.
Still, the turn out was enthusiastic, there was Kefi and money was raised for the team. The dance floor may not have been a squeeze this time, but it was rarely without tapping feet.
Along with the hired band of which I unfortunately don't know the name, there was also Mr. Andrianatos from Kolieri singing. A northern Ithacan favourite entertainer for functions such as these.
If you haven't supported the Odysseas Football Club, then you can still do so at any time of the year. Donations help with uniforms and travel costs for matches off Ithaki island.
There were some empty tables, but I would say on the whole, the turn out was very respectable and everyone had a great time! Personally, I loved the intimate feeling.
The bar always seems to be the fave spot for the onlookers and partiers who need a little more dutch courage to celebrate. I think another successful fund raiser was had.
