Beautiful summer days continue on Ithaca. It's also nearly time for the Exoghi Panighiri (Festival) in Exoghi on the 17th July with the Kioni Panighiri following soon after on the 20th July. The Panighiris are village festivals usually celebrating the saint day from which each local church has taken it's name. Although liturgies are still given earlier in the evenings, panighiris have become a time to celebrate life with lots of food, drink and dancing to 'live' music. Money collected through alcohol and food goes into the community for church maintenance and other things that could benefit that community.
July 2014 - Friday 11th - An occasionally overcast day yesterday made the perfect conditions for day trippers. In Kioni they came off the boat and just kept coming. The night before Kioni had a record 80 yachts docked in their harbour. I guess it's safe to assume the height of the season will soon be upon us with more and more people setting foot on our shores.
Jane Cochrane, artist and painter of beautiful water colours is having an exhibition at the old Kioni school over the next weeks, but this Saturday, 12th July is an open invitation for all to come and enjoy some wine, paintings and the opportunity to speak with the artist. Opens around 7pm.

Left - Libretto, the Italian Trattoria which gained such a great reputation over the past couple of years, moved to the bayside last year, where Liberty restaurant was previously. The excellent menu of home made pasta and Italian dishes continues to be the feature, but now you can enjoy the bay views too. whether you prefer to sit indoors or out, there's plenty of room and the atmosphere is just lovely. Very reasonable prices too.
