Summer Festival Time
Saturday 19th - Tonight at Romantza just outside of Stavros, it's music and dancing time again. Over the past few years the tradition that is Romantza has been ignited again by it's owner Nikos Sikiotis. This year, all money raised will go toward the northern Ithacan Primary school. Funds are much needed there, so get along to support if you can. Romantza is steeped in Ithaca's musical history back in the day when it was a big event to go dancing in the village. Romantza provided the venue for those itchy dancing feet so many many years ago, and each summer tries to bring that sense of adventure back into the local night life. By now most of the tables will probably already by booked, but you can still give it a go or come and hang around the periphery. TEL: 6944 546 290
The temperatures are forecast to go up and up over the next week. We may even experience a heatwave
in the not too distant future. Let's hope the sea breezes don't let us down, so we can at least cool down at night.
Don't forget on Sunday 20th July, the big Kioni Festival is on. All welcome. There'll be dancing, food and drink and raffle, so join in and see what all the fuss is about. See you there.
July 2014 - Thursday 17th - It's the big panighiri night tonight in Exoghi. The Ag. Marina festival usually starts the season off with a bang. It's one of the favourite festivals of the season for many.

Last night the En Xoro dance group, made up of children, boys and girls from around Ithaca, performed in Kioni with Dances through Fairytales. A really fun night for both the kids and the audience.

Friday 18th - Last night people from all over the island, locals and visitors, northerners and southerners headed up to the mountain village of Exoghi to enjoy the Ag. Marina Festival, more lovingly known as the Exoghi Panighiri. Great turn-out, great fun and the band was cooking up a 'dance storm' for everyone there.

Sunday 20th - Tonight is the Kioni Festival (Panighiri) and by the look of it, it's going to be buzzing with lots and lots of people.
Before the Day Trippers come in, life is relaxed and easy going. You have plenty of perfect positions to choose from, you can look out onto the bay and enjoy the calm of the Ionian under the blue, blue sky.
Then the Day Tripper boat docks and a flood of colour and variations of the human kind explode from the decks onto the streets of our bayside villages.
This year they don't seem to be coming for a lunch break, but for a look around, a coffee maybe or an ice-cream and definitely for photo opps. Some dive into the baysides to cool off after a hot stint on the boat, others shade themselves at a Cafe and cool down with a beer. For 30 minutes a sleepy bayside village turns into a buzzing metropolis.
Summer on Ithaca is always full of hope, realized Greek dreams and colourful enthusiasm. The positivity of visitors enthralled by our traditional ways is contageous. It makes you want to close up shop and join them on a holiday.
