I took off a few days to head up north to Ioannina, and for those who haven't ventured there, and the area of Zagorahoria which surrounds it, I would advise everyone to go visit the Epirus area of Greece. It's a wonderful area. There are so many wonderful places to discover in Greece, but it's always nice to return to Ithaca. It is a very special island.

Saturday 20th - As we head closer to the end of September, the exodus from Ithaki increases. The major tourism now is the transient yachting flotillas, some holiday company groups and a few independent travelers. Weekends are very quiet. It's changeover for the companies and yachting flotillas.

Below - Piso Aetos departures.

September 2014 - Wednesday 10th  - Finally more blue skies than grey today. The temperatures are still pretty low for this time of year, but it was a breath of relief to know that summer hadn't completely disappeared.

It's fairly quiet around the island though, Day Trippers bring in some activity around the island, but on the whole, it's not very busy.

Around Vathy

Even Filiatro beach in the south of Ithaca, isn't very busy. A few swimmers here and there. Yachts are still plenty.

With much lower temperatures this Summer, the amount of bush fires has been to a minimum. There's always a bright side to everything.

Don't know why there are still areas around Ithaki with overflowing rubbish bins. I thought it had all been sorted, but the smell in some places, tells me differently.

Saturday 13th - Yesterday morning, despite the sun shining after a night of massive storm activity, the electricity went off anyway. Luckily it was off for just a little over 30 minutes. In the north of Ithaca, the problem has been a fuse dropping for a few years now, surely that would quite easy to fix.

While northern countries have been experiencing warmer and sunnier weather than usual, Greece has been experiencing cooler and rainier weather than usual. Have the tables turned? Who knows, soon Greeks could be heading to the UK for their summer holidays if this continues.

So, it is pretty quiet around the place for September except for exceptional moments here and there, but it's not only the weather and tourism that is lacking now, but also the laughter and activity of the kids from around the island. It was back to school this week. That always makes Ithaki streets much quieter.

Sunday 14th - Quite overcast today, with a possibility of some light rain. Very quiet day.

Friday 19th - Such a beautiful September. The weather is just perfect now, blue skies and warm sunshine. I would hazard a guess that those on Ithaca right now are pretty happy to be here.

It's been no secret that the ferry timetables have been a big upset this year, and that finding information is sometimes incredibly difficult, due to the ferry companies not updating their websites. I had a look again yesterday, and although Kefalonia Lines which has the Killini to Ithaca route, has updated the greek timetable, the English timetable still has the summer schedule of daily routes to the island, that is NOT the case. Please look on How To Get There for the actual days and times. This is not an oversight on their part as I have emailed them and rung them, but still no English update.
