Artemisia is one of the true grits of this island.  She has lived here through wars and famine, the earthquake of '53 and seen Ithaca struggle and survive through the decades from the 1920's to the present day.  She has a sharp witt and is as informed about the world and it's politics as the next person.  Her neighbourhood of Lahos looks out for her, although she doesn't need too much attention.  She tends her vineyard and continues to do her chores even at the age of 85 without complaint.  Artemisia is still years away from relinquishing her productive life.
