Yiorgos Siimiris was born in Vathy where he lived until 1971 at which time  he joined the Merchant Navy and made his career as a Captain.  When his father passed away in 1981, he returned to Ithaca to run the family business, Ithaca Embroideries, situated along the main strip just as you get to the heart of Vathy.
