Sunday 26th - Nearly the end of July. Yesterday was so hot, even the crickets had a nap. Today, it's still hot, but there's a refreshing breeze taking the steam off. The Perahori wine festival was again a great success this year. I missed it unfortunately, but the grapevine has given it 5 stars. You can't go wrong with the friendly community of Perahori.

Saturday 25th - Above - Australians and South African Ithacans unite under the Fiorendino flag as Stuart and his friends. Left - Regular visitors from Wales to Ithaki, Paul and Mel, bring recruits who also give Ithaki the thumbs up. The four are sailing around the calm Ionian waters. L - R - Paul, Gloria, Mel and Peter.

A scorcher today with 43 C. It's hotter than hot. Everything, including the skyline, is steaming. Best place to be is in the water... so what am I waiting for?

Yachts moored 4 deep in Frikes while in Kioni, the number of yachts moored were few. The wind blew directly into the bayside village, leaving yachts moored there a little too exposed to the elements. The wind died down after midnight and the yachts were free to take off into the Ionian again.

Monday 27th - Yesterday 8 force winds blew over Ithaki and Frikes saw a record number of yachts moored on both sides of the new and old piers to escape it. It was time for some On Shore kind of fun. Treasure hunting time.

Warm nights now as we head into August, the cherry month of the Season, although July seemed to have been quite sweet as far as incoming visitors also.
Tomorrow, Thursday 30th of July, a musical presentation of the youthful music by Dodoris Koutsouvelis' band. If you want a little amplification, maybe a little dance too, then head on down to the Garden Theatre of the Vathy High School. Performance brought to you Fimios. Concerts usually start around 9pm during the Summer period.

Wednesday 29th - On Ithaca we have some of the most amazing bays in the Ionian, big natural harbours that take your breath away. Left - Vathy Bays taken from road to Perahori. Below - Perahori views - When you look up at the mountain village of Perahori (meaning 'beyond the village') it looks like quite a hike away from the capital, but in fact it's only a few minutes drive to this mountain village. From there you get some of the best southern views you can imagin.

For an hour and a half everything is a rush, but amidst the demand and the time restriction brought on by 400 - 500 people each day around 3pm, everyone seems to be organized, getting the food to the impatient trippers in a timely and friendly fashion. When it's time for the Day Tripper to leave again, the travelers run to make the boat, the local business heads treat themselves to a cold beer and the Grill man, instead of grilling himself a couple of souvlaki, asks the kitchen staff to make him a nice healthy sandwich to munch on..

Left - Dexa Beach. Ithakis Blue Flag beach where no matter what time of the day, you'll find a little shade given by the olive trees.

Friday 31st - Last day of July. Below - A Lefkada Day Tripper has been motoring into Frikes bay just after lunch for some time now and has increased business for the bayside village by at least 25%. It gives the restauranteurs and shop keepers a good reason not to go home for siesta, but also helps to liven up the usually quiet time in Frikes.
