January 2015 - Thursday 22nd  - We seem to be having a little Indian Summer on Ithaca. Enjoying it while it lasts.

Saturday 24th - It's just a breath away from elections in Greece. People are worried, confused, angry, and there's been another run on the banks in fear of what's been mongered in the press, that we will lose our money if we don't vote in the thieves again. I really don't know which would be the right way to vote, but as far as I can see, I would rather take the chance on a newbie than go with those who have buggered it up for decades. But who am I, I can't vote anyway, despite paying my taxes.

Yes, I'm a little (probably alot) cynical, but for those of you who aren't, please vote with your heads, not with your family alliances and promises of jobs for the boys. This country needs a change for hope.

It's been a rainy couple of days, and it looks like it will continue into next week.

Monday 26th - Greece voted in Syriza, a left winged party, but with 2 seats short of a majority. they have formed a coalition with a right winged party of independents, For me that's unfortunate, because any coalition means a watering down of a clear target. For their coalition, Syriza has given up 13 seats in the parliament. At this point I'd like to hide under a rock. Left and right joining together? I can already hear the insults and arguments firing, instead of the future developing. It's soured my joy somewhat. Hope I'm wrong.

Yesterday was a wet, and I should say, very quiet voting day on Ithaca. The usual busloads of voters brought in from the mainland were conspicuously absent. Down right apathetic this year. It's understandable, but disappointing because no action means nothing happens. Change doesn't just fall on our head. Luckily (i hope) we have a party that represents what the majority of Greeks want, let's hope they achieve what is proclaimed, unachievable by economists, media and the EU, and that Greece can move toward a happier and less debilitating future.

Saturday 31st - 10BF winds and rain punctuate the past day, although it's not really that cold.

In hope that someone reading this has the power to do something about it, I wish to state that for months now, Ithaca has not had the public office of building permits office represented with an employee. It's up to Kefalonia, as Ithaca is under it's umbrella, to fill this position with a qualified person. Kefalonia is sitting on it's hands. This issue is not something that should be put off, shoved under piles of Kefalonian business and forgotten about over a long weekend. While this office remains empty, locals, including me, can not earn a living as it is dependent on this office. People are without roofs on their homes, while they become water-logged over this wet winter, despite the permits having been paid for. It's unacceptable! and what's really criminal is that the body to complain to about this, is the body which is waylaying this issue over and over. It's NOT good enough. We have a new government with new ideas, but an old mindset of 'buggar it, I'd rather have a coffee at the Cafenion'. Kefalonia, you have an obligation to Ithaca!!!!!!! Fix it. Ithaki Council, you have an obligation to push and push and push until you get a result, not just a few phone calls. Sit on their desks and demand they pay attention to you. It's their responsibility to pay attention to you.
