Thu 2 Aug - Above - Dexa Beach south Ithaca. The wind picked up the sea a little yesterday and also helped in dropping the temperature to something a little more normal again. Blue skies all around until late afternoon, when some clouds began to form, making a few wonder about the possibility of rain. Right and Below Right - Kioni. Below Left - Kravoulia 3 Beach between Frikes and Raxi in the north of Ithaca.

Left - The bay at Aetos in the south of the island gets whipped up by the wind which began to blow early in the morning and continued through the night. Below Left - Sun lovers from around the world unite at Kravoulia 2 Beach just outside of Frikes. It's a popular beach for locals and visitors. The sea is now luke warm since the extended heatwave period, but here, there are still some cool channels flowing from the mountain which descends way below the waterline, for those who want real refreshment.

Above and Left - Vathy on a warm August night. The capital of Ithaki is quite wonderful once the sun goes down and the lights go on. Perahori village acts like a beacon, lighting up the mountainside, while below, Vathy sparkles like some magical mirror ball as it reflects in the horseshoe bay. There are people strolling and congregating, eating, drinking and having a great time from one end of the village to the other. August is in full swing, and our Capital is buzzing with Summer entertainment. Where do you want to be today?
Sat 4 Aug - If you are on Ithaca, you won't want to miss the 2 day celebration of Sotiri in Stavros this Sunday and Monday, the Panighiri that squeezes most of Ithaca in to its village square. Sotiri is the big Panighiri of the Summer. You won't want to miss it. Below - The Frikes windmill which overlooks the harbour, has recent been adorned with the Greek flag.

Left - The crystal clear waters of the Ionian. The heatwave may have broken, but the humitidy is climbing so if you're going to be wet, may as well dive in.

Sun 5 Aug - Above - Last night in Vathy, Eparxos Thanasis Livitsani and the Eparxo members, Spiros Arsenis and Smaragda Sardeli, paid tribute to the memory of Friend of Ithaki, Alexi eudalad Sola 1946 - 2001 with an exhibition of his works, old photographs and memorabilia.

Below - Wherever you go, wherever you look, there's no getting away from it now. The High season is upon us which means lots of traffic, nowhere to park and people with faces we've never seen before. Sounds just like any city in the world, except here it's all squeezed into a fish bowl. It's the time of year many on Ithaca look forward to all winter. Great bursts of activity livening up the place, different languages echoing in the streets and wide-eyed faces with broad grins taking Ithaki all the way in.

A Tribute to Strato Dionysiou by his sons Stelios and Angelos
The turn out for this Folk Music concert at the Garden Theatre in Vathy was tremendous. All the seats were full, so people squeezed themselves into the crevices along the sides as well, just to be part of this wonderful concert. When it comes to nostalgia and the memories the songs of Strato Dionysiou bring back, there was no holding back the emotions or the excitement. The concert started with Strato Dionysiou singing a medley of hits on the big screen hanging over the stage. Even before the first note, the anticipation from the audience was palpable. They knew every song and every lyric, and each and every one took a little walk down memory lane as the Dionysiou brothers paid tribute to their father, song by song.
